Background

Kwartarini Wahyu Yuniarti is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Psychology – Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) – Yogyakarta, Indonesia since 1989 until present. She has accomplished her first six years training on Education Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology UGM (1982–1988). A 2000-hour clinical psychology internship program was successfully carried out at a terminal psychiatric hospital, Camarillo State Hospital, Camarillo, LA, USA (1989 to 1990).

She has received Rockefeller Award for sponsorship of master degree on Medical Social Science from the Faculty of Medicine, Newcastle University, New South Wales, Australia (1994 to 1999). Her research thesis was on the Discrepancy between Hygiene–Related Knowledge and Practices among Mothers of Children with Diarrhea.

She has received the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Award - Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst - for her Doctorate Program and has accomplished her Doctorate Degree from the Faculty of Psychology – Hamburg University, Germany (1999 to 2004).

Kwartarini Yuniarti has been connected with MAPI Research Institute in Lyon – France, as a senior translator for Indonesia, in the field of cultural and linguistic validation for psychometric  instruments, from foreign language to Indonesian.

Within the last five years, she has received  award for  2 months research stay in Hamburg – Germany from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). In the years of 2006 and 2009 she was awarded by DAAD to attend scientific workshop and research stay in Leipzig, focusing on disaster studies.

Since 2006, Kwartarini Yuniarti is associated with the Network for Humanitarian Studies, U-to-U international collaboration with Rijksuniversiteit of Groningen, supervising the field works of the European students in Indonesia. She has also received European Commission Award for teaching and research in Europe, 2009, hosted by the Rijksuniversiteit of Groningen.

Kwartarini Yuniarti is the current director of Center for Indigenous and Cultural Psychology, at the Faculty of Psychology, UGM, in addition to the Coordinator of Graduate Education for Professional Clinical Psychology. Professionally, she is associated with the International Network of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Network of Humanitarian Action, Indonesian Psychological Association, and Asian Association for Social Psychology.

Her main research interests are the fields of Health Psychology, Indigenous psychology, and Cross-cultural psychology.
